After a great day of quality junior volleyball at the University of East London on Sunday, the Enfield borough boys’ team came away as champions for the first time ever!

Coached by England International player Robert Poole and assistant Aidan Daly, the Enfield side began the day with a match against 2015 & 2016 winners Wandsworth. Maybe not the ideal match to start to campaign off with, Enfield narrowly lost but there was still all to play for with 2 teams progressing from each pool to the quarter final stages of the tournament.

Subsequent victories over Lambeth and Bexley then saw Enfield through to play Redbridge in the quarter final where another comfortable win eased them into the final – a rematch against Wandsworth !

This time Enfield were out of the blocks straight away in the best-of-3 sets match, building an early lead, they managed to hold on to take the first set 25-17. Now looking very settled in their game, Enfield increased the pressure on their opposition, again building up an early lead in the second set with some excellent set distribution and powerful attacking. With the vocal crowd now behind them, and despite a late surge from Wandsworth, they took the set 25-20 and the match 2-0 to record their first ever tournament final victory.
